The goal of National Pet ID week is to reduce the number of unidentified pets coming into animal shelters. A large number of pets get lost each year whose owner’s can never be identified. During the week of April 21 – 27, the staff at Hudson Animal Hospital encourages everyone to get their pet micro-chipped. This will ensure permanent identification of your pet in the event your cat or dog ever becomes lost.
Why does my pet need a microchip when he already wears a collar with tags?
We agree that all pets should wear collar tags imprinted with their name and their human parent’s phone number. But, only a microchip provides permanent ID that cannot fall off, be removed, or become too damaged to read. The microchip process takes only a few seconds, and your pet will not react any more than he would to a vaccination.
