Pet Insurance

Our receptionist Dale has extensive experience handling insurance claims for our clients. Here is his thought about pet insurance:

What do you think about pet insurance? Without a doubt, this is one of the most common questions we get from pet owners both old and new. But the answer to this isn’t exactly simple. As with our own health insurance, navigating a world of premiums, deductibles and reimbursements can leave you frustrated and confused. While we can’t offer a definitive answer as to what provider or plan is best, we can give you tips that will help you and your furry one get the most out of pet insurance. Here are some helpful things to keep in mind:

– There are so many insurance providers out there, what works for one pet might not work for another. Some of the most popular providers are Trupanion, VPI and ASPCA.
– Factors that go into coverage and rates include age, breed, history and geographic location, just to name a few.
– Some plans will only cover accidents and illnesses, others may include routine items like yearly vaccines and dental therapy.
– Almost all plans work the same way: vet services are paid for in full, a diagnosis is made, a claim form is filled out and submitted, reimbursement is then issued (usually within a few weeks) to the pet owner.

Again, there are numerous items to considering when selecting an insurance provider and plan. Our best recommendation is to do some research, choose a few companies that interest you, and call to speak with a representative. Websites and brochures are great, but they can only take you so far. Speak with a customer service representative and let them know a little about your pet and what you’re looking to get out of the insurance. Doing your homework beforehand will result in fewer surprises and a better experience for you and your pet.
